We're excited about our upcoming Music Camp! This event is for all our Instrumental Music Students from Years 7-12.
All Ensembles and Choirs will attend one camp together at 'CYC The Island’ in Cowes, Phillip Island. Music Camp provides an opportunity for all students within our ensembles to participate in intense rehearsals, workshops, team building exercises and performances where they will further develop their skills in musicianship, teamwork, and leadership.
Though running costs for camps have significantly increased, Music Camp remains a highly subsidised event to ensure that all students can participate. This year, the cost for this event is $350 per student. A reminder that full payment is strictly due by 28 July as we need to confirm numbers and dietary requirements with the venue.
A reminder as we settle into a very busy term, that attendance at all ensemble rehearsals is compulsory and a very important part of learning an instrument. It is through regularly rehearsing and performing with their team that students’ skills develop.
On Tuesday 18 July, 24 children and teachers from Wattle Planet Early Learning Centre braved the wet conditions to pay a visit our College and watch the Mixed Choir rehearse at lunch time, as part of their new Music Program.
The 4yr olds were exceptionally well behaved (as were our students) and keenly interested in observing the proceedings. Afterwards, they asked when they could come again and were inspired to sing all the way home!
This time of year sees our Year 8, 9, 10 and 11 students undertake their subject selection for 2024. Our College offers some absolutely fantastic subject choices – particularly in our music department. I would strongly encourage all of our Year 10 Instrumental students to consider VCE Music as a pathway through their VCE.
It is a fantastic subject, not just because you do heaps of music, but because all the evidence shows that undertaking a music subject increases performance and achievement across all other subject areas, and significantly reductes anxiety, with continued benefits to mental health. For our Year 8 and 9 students there are a number of subjects on offer that appeal to a huge variety of interests including, for those who do not wish to play an instrument:
Gaming, Sound and Animation focuses on the evolution of video games, animated movies and TV.
Sound Production and Tech looks at using technology for recording, amplifying and manipulation sound as well as using tech to produce electronic music.
Song Writing needs no previous background in playing a instrument or music, but gives students an opportunity to creatively engage in learning about and writing songs.
Please come and see me in the Music Office if you want to find out more information!
Tickets for this year's Production of The Little Mermaid are ON SALE HERENOW! We are also running a Production raffle fundraiser where you can win 2 VIP Tickets for the 4 August show as a guest of Mr Murphy. See page 7 for all the details!
In the last week of term, we will hold our fabulous Gala Concert at Bunjil Place. This is always a wonderful night that showcases the creativity, dedication and passion of our students. Watch this space for more information!!
I’m really excited about this action-packed term. If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me.
