Junior Girls EMR Football
On the 19 June, the Junior Girls went out to Elgar Park to take part in the Eastern Metropolitan Region Junior Girls AFL Competition. Earlier in the year, the team were lucky and went straight through the first round and into Regionals without playing a game, so they were nervous to play their opponents.
The girls came out firing and managed to go undefeated all day and make it to the Grand Final. They put in an incredible effort and played a high level of footy, with Raeleigh De Young, Olyvia Schultz, and Ashleigh Britten being amongst the best for Wantirna.
The Grand Final was a great game although the girls unfortunately lost to Ringwood by 2 points after a very controversial umpire’s decision. Despite the result, it was amazing to see all the girls try their hardest and almost make it to the State level. Both Ms Lay and I were super proud of the team and what they achieved. We were super happy with the effort everyone put in, especially the girls that don’t play football outside of school. Seeing them play so well together has everyone excited for next year. Well done girls!
