Curriculum Day this Friday

A reminder that this Friday (28th July) is a Curriculum day for our staff, meaning that students are not at school. Our staff will be using the day to work on their professional practice by developing their understanding and practice of Professional Learning Communities (PLC). This day will be led by a team of staff from the school and will help staff to better use data and access current research and expertise in their day to day practice.

Any families needing child care on the day can book in with Team Kids https://www.teamkids.com.au/venues/st-kilda-park-primary-oshc/

Celebration of the Arts - 'Illuminoso'

We are beyond excited to be starting work on our 2023 Celebration of the Arts (COTA).

After last year's highly successful 'No Planet Bee' evening, we can't wait to share this great event with the school community later this year.

The event is the high point of our school year and is an amazing community event. Students are already working hard in their weekly Visual Arts and Performing Arts lessons to develop and create artwork and performances around a theme. This year, COTA will focus on and examine the glowing, shining and illuminating with our theme of 'Illuminoso'

The work comes together on the evening (5pm on Thursday 2nd November) and the school becomes a combined art show, performance space and community party. All classes, orchestras and choirs perform to the audience, all students display their artwork and there is food and drink for sale.

The evening is always a great demonstration of the ability, confidence and creativity of our students and a lovely reminder of all of our school values. Please put the date into your diary now so you don't miss out.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)

One aspect of our Inclusion Practices is our involvement in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD).

The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:

  • year of schooling
  • category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
  • level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.

This information assists schools to:

  • formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
  • consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
  • develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.

The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.

The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.dese.gov.au/about-us/resources/department-education-skills-and-employment-complete-privacy-policy-0).

Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).

If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school.

Dads' Camp - save the date

Our parent-run Dads' Camp is taking place again this year at the Big4 Campsite in Wye River.

Whilst final arrangements are being put into place by the organising group of dads, they would like you to clear the decks and put the weekend of the 1st - 3rd December into your diaries.

Mums may want to start organising their child-free plans for that weekend!

Further details and booking information will follow later in the year.
