Dear Parents and Carers,

Happy Father's Day to all Father's and those men who are Father figures for our students and families.

Let us Pray:

Dear God,

we pray that You will strengthen the fathers, grandfathers and father figures of our nation to know that they can count on You to help them lead and protect those that are dependent on them.

Let them know that they are not alone in upholding their responsibilities to provide for and support those under their care.

We ask this through Christ your Son,

Amen.

Father's Day Celebrations

Many thanks to Mrs Shannon Cain for her outstanding effort in organising a most enjoyable Father's Day Breakfast gathering. It was really terrific to see so many Fathers, Grandfathers and father figures, attend this event. Special thanks also to Mrs Catherine Garnon, Mr Will Cain and Mr Greg G for their skills on the BBQ. Finally a huge thank you to the very supportive staff of Catherine McAuley and the group of Mother's who helped out with the cooking, serving and general organising to make sure everyone had a lovely time.

Thank you to the Year 1 Teachers, Mrs Row Livingstone, Mrs Deb Prestwidge, Mrs Petah Armstrong and Mrs Ann Brown and the Year 1 students for a lovely liturgy to celebrate fathers.

National Child Protection Week

This week is National Child Protection Week across Australia. National Child Protection Week runs from Sunday 3 to Saturday 9 September 2023. It’s an opportunity to recognise and promote the safety and wellbeing of Australian children with the message that ‘Every child, in every community, needs a fair go’.

This year’s theme is ‘where we start matters’. I invite you to use this theme to explore and talk about the many ways that ‘where we start matters’ for children, young people and families. To support National Child Protection Week 2023, eSafety has learning activities for students in Years 3 to 6 which our students will engage in. There are also excellent resources for parents. Please check out the eSafety website. https://www.esafety.gov.au

At Catherine McAuley each class participated in an activity to raise awareness and understanding of this very important issue.

Further, I have invited Constable Jane Heffernan to come and talk to our Year 6 students about important issues facing these young people as they move towards high school. This talk will take place tomorrow in the Year 6 area.

Report from Inquiry and Review

As you are aware, we had a school review earlier this year. The interview panel congratulated the team at Catherine McAuley for their work over the past 5 years. They found many areas to commend the staff and students on. They did also make some recommendations which will form the basis of our school improvement journey over the next 3-5 years. The main recommendations are:

1 Review our school vision and mission

2 Develop a School Learning Framework/Statement of Learning

3 Identify EAL/D students and their language needs

4 Continue our work in. the Wellbeing space

5 Provide opportunities for student voice

6 Formation of a Parent Advisory Committee

WAM Policy on Website

It has come to my attention that not everyone is aware of our Wellbeing Policy which outlines our behaviour expectations and the reward system. This policy is on the school website or can be viewed by clicking the link below.

Congratulations to Sarah Stone

I would like to share Sarah's Strings Eisteddfod news. Sarah took part in an Eisteddford on Thursday last week.

It was a tough competition this year as there were many competitors who were just outstanding!

But Sarah's persistence during lessons and practice paid off and she came out with the following results:

2nd - Junior Strings Ensemble

2nd - Under 10 yrs

1st - AMEB grade 3&4

1st - Junior String Championship

Well done Sarah!

Warm regards,

Jo Flynn
