From The Principal's Desk

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are almost through the halfway point of the term and looking ahead to Spring in a few weeks. On Monday night this week I attended the Boys' Program at the Ballarat Technical School. The Ballarat Technical School has some engaging programs and is a facility that is a great asset for our town.  Allowing our boys to experience as part of the program is a special treat. We also had our Grade 5-6 students who were selected in the basketball team compete on Wednesday in the Ballarat schools division and certainly enjoyed the experience. A big thank you to Mrs O’Brien for preparing them for this experience.

Next week our Grade 5 students travel to Halls Gap for 2 nights for their Grade 5 camp. I will be attending this camp, leaving Mrs Cooper and Mrs Lindsay in charge of the school.   Looking at the 10 day forecast the weather looks to be chilly but generally fine days. In Week 7, I will also be attending the Grade 3 camp at Creswick Cabin Lodge and leaving Mrs Cooper in charge of the 2 days.

DELACOMBE PS VISION

From the beginning of Term 2 we have been working on our school vision and values.  This process has been through staff, to school council, to parents, to junior school council  and then back to staff.

The process has been one that has been consultative and it has taken its time to get to this point. This Vision and Values will be the foundation of the school moving forward.  Our vision statement is:

Our values moving forward for Delacombe PS will be the following four values:

The challenge for our school is to ensure that our students, staff and school community live up to these values and find ways to reinforce and recognise when we see them in action.

PIE drive

A big thank you to our parents who led the PIE drive in the school. This fundraiser sold over $9000 worth of pies and made over $900 for the school. These funds will be directed to improve facilities for our students.

National day against bullying and violence

On Friday 18th August we will be running a program recognising the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence. This day is a lead up to the messaging we have been promoting around the school in classes and at assemblies.

Our guest speaker to start the day will be Josh Hose who competed in the Paralympics and will talk to the students about the importance of acceptance and inclusiveness.

To finish the day we will be looking to line up our 530 students on the Grade 5-6 tennis courts and spell out the words below in the picture.  We have Dan Cook our School President taking a photo of this with a drone to capture the moment.

Reports

As you would have seen, our Semester 1 reports went out at the end of last term.

Please make sure that you open and download them, as when your child leaves the school you will no longer be able to access their reports via Compass.
