A note from Mr Jackson

ICAS: Mathematics, English and Science

ICAS is an online academic assessment that students from Years 2 to 6 have enjoyed in the past. Rosanna Primary hosts students in the areas of English, Mathematics and Science. These challenging assessments are designed to assess students’ higher order thinking and problem-solving skills. Students are withdrawn from class and sit together for the duration of the assessment.

Each assessment celebrates students’ accomplishments by providing opportunities for recognition and development. Every student who participates will receive a printed certificate and an online results report. Top performers will be eligible for medals.

For more information of the costs and registration required, please see the relevant Compass post. Registrations close on 31 July.

The scheduled dates for the assessments are:

  • English Monday 14 August
  • Science Monday 21 August
  • Maths Tuesday 29 August

School Council

The School Council gathered on Monday evening. They received a range of reports including the confirmation of the mid year monitoring of the Annual Report. The contract for Out of School Hours Care with TheirCare was renewed for another two years and the Asthma Policy was reviewed and presented by the Education Committee. The Canteen Committee noted the trial of an inclusive sushi option on the canteen menu for Tuesday 22 August. The contract with Spartan who provide our school uniforms was renewed. The Facilities Committee discussed some of the grants for a range of projects in the playground, including an application to develop a natural interactive and creative play space for the younger years on the oval. We were able to hear from the latest FORPS actions including the upcoming disco on Friday night.  Thanks to all those who continue to support the school in so many ways.

Working Bee Planned

I encourage you to circle Saturday 26 August (9:00am-12:00 noon) in your diary so you can attend an upcoming Working Bee. Many were impressed with the transformation of the playground, as well as the sausages for lunch at the last gathering! We were all grateful for the renewed yard and oval! All are welcome to contribute to plant, sweep, and renew our yard.

TheirCare Walkins Update

With numbers attending before and after school care continuing to grow, we are eager to ensure that appropriate staffing levels are in place to support the safety and wellbeing of all in attendance. Where appropriate staffing levels are in place for students who have been booked into the program, TheirCare may need to decline late student bookings or ‘walkins’ where the booking means that student numbers are in excess of student to staff supervision ratios.

Leadership Assembly This Friday

All are welcome to join us for the assembly tomorrow where we will be celebrating the appointment of our Semester Two Sustainability Agents and Junior School Councilors. We are excited to have the Mayor of Banyule, Cr Peter Castaldo join us in the official presentation. The ceremony will be followed by afternoon tea in Chandler Hall to celebrate the event! Our new student leaders and their families are welcome to mark this important moment, with a bite to eat!

Prep Enrolment Date

Tomorrow marks the date for final 2024 Prep enrolments. If you have a child or know of children yet to enrol, I encourage you to complete an enrolment form or speak with the office. While we understand that some enrolments will continue to be received, the confirmed enrolments enable the school to begin to shape the 2024 workforce plan.

2024 Plans

A number of families may be considering moves for a diverse range of reasons in 2024. If you are considering or planning to move, then please let me know. Our student numbers for 2024 in each area are directly linked to our funding and staffing plans. By gaining as much clarity as possible about student numbers, we can do everything we can to ensure a smooth transition into 2024.

NCCD Data

At this time every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:

  • year of schooling
  • category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
  • level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.

This information assists schools to:

  • formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
  • consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
  • develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.

We look forward to the collection of information supporting students in the classroom and sharpen the adaptions required to see all our students succeed.

NAPLAN Student Reports

A reminder to parents that the NAPLAN Student Reports from Year 3 and Year 5 students continue to be available from the office. Please call the office if you are happy to have students bring them home.

Keeping Students Safe on our Driveway

Please do not block or use the driveway at the Grandview Grove entrance unless you have permission of the principal. There is a large amount of pedestrian traffic in the morning and afternoon period that use this gate and we wish to ensure the entry and exit of students and families occurs safely. This is also the primary point of access for emergency vehicles and must remain clear at all times.
