"Korean pop, otherwise known as K-pop, is a genre of music that originates from South Korea, hence the name. As a popular modern form of Korean culture, K-pop is a general umbrella term that covers a variety of artistic styles. With many Korean artists influenced by western culture, countless songs incorporate foreign musical elements from other communities. Majority of songs within the industry contain personalised choreography produced by professionals, which include dance compositions that express the ideas or vibes of the song. With our own individual interest in dancing and music, the act involves a fast-paced performance that hopes to catch the audiences’ eye."

Being able to progress through our act has helped many of our young Polynesian students in their understanding of their roots. Our Polynesian group represents Tonga, New Zealand’s Indigenous people (Māori), Niue and Sāmoa. Each Polynesian Island has their respective dancing styles. From the fierce warcry of the south, to the energetic slap dance of the west, Lalor Secondary's Polynesian students have worked relentlessly to assemble an unforgettable experience. We hope you enjoy our act and let our waves overwhelm your canoes!!

"The song ‘Bakit’ by Rachelle Ann Go is a love song that talks about the joy and happiness that the singer’s love has brought into her life. Overall, the song ‘Bakit’ talks about how love can make one feel happy and fulfilled but at the same time can leave one feeling curious and uncertain. I have worked endlessly to perfect this song, and I hope you enjoy it!

Bollywood movies often have colourful visuals with strong, grand and over exaggerated musical numbers. We hope to capture this charm with our Bollywood act, including songs sung in a variety of languages, showing off the diversity of India. Bollywood dances are a combination of different traditional and contemporary dance forms from various parts of the country. Like the musical numbers in Bollywood movies, we hope to tell you a beautiful story through our dance. Our dance team consists of students from different cultures, resembling the versatility and diversity of Bollywood dance. But most of all, we hope you enjoy the act!"

Greek Dance

Performed by Zoe Radimisis, Violeta Thodori and Katerina Piromalis

"Traditional Greek Folk Dancing is a significant part of Greek culture. Each Greek dance tells a unique story, rich in history, of the events, lifestyles and experiences throughout the nation’s history. The first dance called "Mpaintouska" originates from western Thrace (Thraki). The second dance, "Kori Eleni", also referred to as "Elenitsa", is a quick-paced, lively dance that belongs to the region of Florina, and is typically danced only by females as it possesses an elegant nature. The final dance is the most popular dance of Makedonia. This well-known dance named "Leventiko" again originates from the region of Florina. It takes the name from the word "leventis". Considering the age of these dances, the fact that these dances are still performed today not only shows that Greek dance has remained and will continue to remain alive as part of our rich culture. Our group hopes this performance will transport you to the villages where these dances were born."

We hope you enjoy our modern twist on the traditional dance as much as we have enjoyed putting it together!"

Punjabi Dance

Performed by Raina, Amrit Singh, Niti Pon Saravana Lakshmana Perumal, Kyna Kumar and Prabhgun Randhawa

"The Punjabi dance act will incorporate various forms of Bhangra and Giddha, combining powerful moves with feminine dance steps. Punjabi dances are known for their high energy and eye-catching enthusiasm. They are performed during cultural events, weddings, and harvest festivals and reflect Punjabi traditions. Punjab is known for its agricultural capacity, and dances like Bhangra and Giddha reflect this. They celebrate the harvest and gratitude in these dances. While Bhangra is dominated by males, Giddha predominantly consists of females. Giddha is an elegant and graceful dance but still packed with high energy. Bhangra is energetic and resembles farming chores. The dance team is made up of 5 students, each of Indian heritage and ages ranging from year 7 to 11. We hope to lift your mood and let you enjoy our dance!"

Australian Vocals

Performed by Peyton Gulyas, Junior Lauina and John Talevski

“Down Under" is a popular song by the Australian rock band Men at Work, released in 1981. This iconic track captures the essence of Australia's unique culture and landscape. Its catchy melody and distinctive flute riff have made it a timeless classic. The song's lyrics tell the tale of a traveller exploring Australia, encountering quirky characters and experiencing the country's beauty. “Down Under" has become a symbol of Australian identity and continues to be celebrated worldwide, evoking a sense of adventure and camaraderie among listeners. As iconic as this original is, I will be performing a cover of the song by Delta Goodrem, another Australian beauty."
