This week in Mathematics, students will be learning about place value. 

VOCABULARY

Collection: A group of objects to be counted.  

Digit: Digits are symbols used to represent a number (1, 2, 3). They are like an alphabet letter, but for numbers.

Value: The amount the number is worth example 256 the value of the 5 is 50

MAB: Blocks that help us visualize the value of numbers.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Ask your child to identify and record the value of the digit in the tens column for the following numbers:

256 / 87 / 101 / 45

For example: 256, the number in the tens is column is 5, the value of this number is 50. 

Ask your child to identify / record the value of the digit in the ones column for the following numbers:

42 / 78 / 36 / 105

For example: 42, the number in the ones is column is 2, the value of this number is 2.
