CURRICULUM FOCUS

This week in Writing, students will be learning to revise and edit their explanation texts. 

VOCABULARY

Explanation text: ​​a text that explains something. Why something happens or giving information about how to do something.

Revise: improve or make better.

Edit: remove any mistakes, for example, capitals, spelling and punctuation. 

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Ask your child to explain how something works, this might be the topic they learnt about last week or something else they understand how it works. Ask them to use the structure below to write their explanation text. 

Title: what the topic is about

Introduction: introduces the topic of the text

Paragraph: includes the explanation of how and why something occurs

Conclusion: an interesting comment

Diagram: a picture with labels

When they have finished writing their text. Ask them to check if they have the capital letters in the right place, full stops and correct spelling.
