This week in Reading, students will be learning about explanation texts, focusing on the text structure and text features. 


VOCABULARY

Explanation text: ​​a text that explains something. Why something happens or giving information about how to do something.

 

Features: diagram or picture

 

Structure: what an explanation text is going to look like.  


ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Ask your child to explain the different features of an explanation text 

 

Title: what the topic is about

Introduction: introduces the topic of the text

Paragraph: includes the explanation of how and why something occurs

Conclusion: an interesting comment

Diagram: a picture

 

When your child is reading their take home books, you could ask them to identify if the book is an explanation text or not, and how do they know?
