Message from the Principal Team

Week 3 Overview
We have had yet another busy week at CNPS. On Tuesday, our Year 1/2 students travelled to Scienceworks for an excursion and yesterday our Year 5/6 students attended a SEDA Sports open day at the State Netball Hockey Centre.
Congratulations to the Year 5/6 netball team that competed at Division yesterday and made it through to Regionals. This is an absolutely amazing effort!
Thank you to Gaby and Sarah
Over the past six weeks, whilst Trish has been on Leave enjoying a holiday in Europe with her family, Gaby has taken on the role of Acting Business Manager. The role of Business Manager is extremely demanding and Gaby has stepped in seamlessly to provide the much needed continuity for our school community and staff.
On behalf of our students, staff and school community, we thank Gaby for taking on this role during Trish’s absence. We would also like to thank Sarah for stepping into the Office Administration role to assist Gaby in the office during this time.
We look forward to welcoming Trish back to school tomorrow!

- hosted morning tea for the CNPS staff at recess including individual gifts for each staff in hand made gift boxes
- attended a lunch walking meeting with Jane and Rachel

During the day they were asked to assess Rachel’s teaching practice as she taught Performing Arts to FJ. Please see their feedback for Rachel below:
2023 NAPLAN Results and Changes to NAPLAN Reports
This week we received NAPLAN data that identifies the achievement of our Year 3 and Year 5 students against similar schools and our network - Yarra Darebin. We discussed this data with School Council last night and are very proud to share our students’ excellent results. The table below outlines the percentage of students who achieved Exceeding or Strong in each assessment:
Carlton North Primary School is Turning 150
Carlton North Primary School will be 150 years old tomorrow. At the assembly, all instrumental music students will play Happy Birthday to the School while the rest of us sing along!
We have plans to celebrate the school’s 150th Birthday in Term 4 with a formal assembly inviting Department staff, members of our school community and past students. A morning tea will follow this event in the hall for our guests and tours of the school. We also plan on having a special day of learning where each class nominates a decade from the last 150 years and comes to school dressed in the clothes of that era whilst the classroom teacher will teach the class for the day in a similar teaching style to that time.
National Tree Day - Friday 28 July
We hoped to plant 50 tube-stock native trees throughout the school tomorrow for National Tree Day. However, we need an arborist to assess the school site and direct us to where we should plant these trees to ensure longevity and avoid root damage to the school grounds. Unfortunately, the arborist cannot attend until next Tuesday so we plan to plant our trees next week. These trees have been received as part of the Trees for School initiative through Greater Western Water.
Tomorrow in class, our students will be forming in groups of 5-6 and receiving their allocated plant. They will research their plant species and determine the conditions that their plant needs to thrive.
Parent/Carer/Teacher Interviews this coming Monday 31 July and Tuesday 1 August
A reminder for our parents and carers to please book an interview time with your child/ren’s teachers. Parent Teacher Interviews will be conducted next week, on Monday 31 July afternoon (until 4:40 pm) and Tuesday 1 August afternoon (until 6:40 pm). Ten-minute interview time slots are available.
Bookings can be made on Compass.
Communication with our Teaching Staff
Working in the role of a teacher is very different to most other professions. Our teachers’ priorities are teaching and learning and duty of care for our students. Our teachers do not have immediate access to their email, Seesaw or Compass. School staff will do their best to respond to general queries as soon as possible and ask that you allow 2 – 3 working days to provide you with a detailed response. School staff will endeavour to respond to urgent matters within 24 hours, where possible.
