Doncaster RSL’s Vietnam Veteran’s Service.

On Thursday 3rd of August a small group of DSC students from Years 8 to 10 took part in the Doncaster RSL service to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the end of Australia’s commitment to the Vietnam War, recognising the service of all Australians in the Vietnam War and honouring the sacrifices that they and their families made.

Although Vietnam Veterans Day is officially on the 18th August, Doncaster RSL chose to celebrate on 3rd August as they had the Vietnam Veteran’s Education Van in attendance for the day to educate the community about the Vietnam war and to enable veterans to attend both a local and state event.

The service was to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the ending of the war and the important service of men and women from all walks of life who went, some were called, some enlisted while others were conscripted and some were medical personnel.

The students involved are to be commended for the way in which they conducted themselves and led parts of the service.

A huge thank you to Sarah C. who acted as MC for the service, Tayla M. and Rebecca C. for reciting poems and Pamudi M. for her fabulous rendition of the National Anthem.

Thank you also to Emily Dean who joined us from Templestowe College to give a fabulous performance of the Last Post and the Rouse. Members of the RSL, including Vietnam Veteran’s and local community members who attended the service spoke glowingly about their fabulous participation in the service and how much they valued having younger members of the community involved in it.
