R.E. NEWS

One Million Children Praying the Rosary

On Tuesday, all classes prayed the Rosary together, joining children around the world to pray for peace.

Family Mass

This Sunday 23rd October (World Mission Sunday) we invite all families to attend our first Family Mass for the term. It is at 9.00am at Mary Help of Christians Church, Hillvue Road. Everyone is then invited to stay and share Morning Tea provided by families from Kindergarten, Year 3 and Year 6.  It is a wonderful parish morning and we hope that you are able to join us.

Crazy Sock Day

Children’s Mission - Catholic Mission

Locally and globally, we answer the call to love God and love our neighbour, and work to establish the reign of God through serving those in need, and acting for justice and creation. During October it is World Mission month. At St Edward’s School we invite all students to be involved in Crazy Sock Day on Friday 28th October. This is Children’s Mission Day and we will be raising money for Catholic Mission.

We ask that students wear their normal sport uniform and a pair of crazy socks. Students are encouraged to bring a gold coin donation for this worthy cause.

LIBRARY NEWS

Senior Collection Update

In our Primary Library, we have a collection designed specifically for our very senior students. This collection is usually aimed at our Year 6 students, but now that we are in Term 4, our Year 5 students can also access these books as well.

This collection includes some novels and series with more difficult text and some slightly more mature themes. Dystopian fiction (when things are about as bad as it can get) becomes very popular with this age group, so we have included series such as 'Tomorrow When the War Began' and the 'Mortal Engines Quartet'.

Miss Steph has been busy updating the collection so that the books are more easily located and more attractive for the senior students to find something great to read! Our photos show what our fabulous collection looks like. Please encourage your child in Year 5 or 6 to have a look at this collection.

Returning Library Books to School

It is Term 4 now and we are focusing on getting books returned that have been out for a long time. Each student with overdue books is being given a note as a reminder to return the books. We really appreciate family support with this as our next step will be invoices asking families to pay for the unreturned books. This is especially important for our Year 6 students as they will leave us at the end of next term.

Thank you for your support in this matter.

1000 Books Before School Project

Don't forget to register your child in our 1000 Books Before School Project if they are enrolled in Kinder for next year. Parents can take home a fresh bag of age appropriate books whenever needed for their child, exposing them to endless new vocabulary and conversation. There is nothing bad about that! Help prepare your child for the best school start ever! Just pop into the Infants Office to see the ladies and they will get you started.

If you are already participating in the project, don't forget to swap your books for a new bag as often as you like!

Library at Break Times

The Library is open to our students before school, recess and lunch. There is always, reading in every break and before school, various clubs at recess, and reading and drawing at recess and lunch. Borrowing is available all the time during the day and is strongly encouraged during break time.

The clubs include:

Early Bird Reading Club: from 8.15am every day when each campus is open.

Monday: Lego Club  - Primary

Tuesday: Games Club - Primary

Wednesday: Lego Club or Craft Club

Thursday: Lego Club - Infants

Friday - Lego Club - Infants

Encourage your child to be a part of our busy, happy, vibrant library community by occasionally joining in with any or all of these activities. Please see below the days the library is open on each campus.

What day is the library open on each campus?

Primary:  Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday every week.

Infants:   Thursday and Friday every week.

Both campuses are open:

From 8.15am for Early Bird reading and sticker collecting; and Recess and Lunch in playtime for reading, drawing and various clubs.

See you in the Library,

Mrs Annie
