VCAL Update

Dear Parents and Carers,

Wednesday night was the FMPLLEN VCAL awards night. Congratulations to Charlotte Stanley and Matilda Sawyer who both won awards.

Charlotte Stanley - Charlotte has been such a fantastic inclusion to the VCAL Program at EMC. Charlotte has participated in all VCAL activities and has taken full advantage of the many opportunities provided by the program. Charlotte is a fantastic example of the impact of following your passions and trying your best. She is a fantastic student, classmate and friend to many. Our VCAL program is so much better because of students like Charlotte. We wish her all the best for the future.

Matilda Sawyer - Matilda has shown an enormous amount of growth both at school and in the workplace. Matilda has improved skills such as planning, organisation and management throughout her time in the program and submits high quality coursework. She is fantastic at asking for help when needed and this year has taken the initiative to complete coursework early, asking for more so that she can finish early to begin work. Matilda has made the most of every situation presented to her. Matilda, we couldn’t be more proud of the young woman that you have become and we hope that you stay in touch.

Congratulations to the Year 11s who have finished their formal classes.

On Monday last week, students attended an excursion at ACMI. Students explored how screen culture reflects and impacts social values of the time and allowed them to ask questions about who is behind the lens, and how this impacts how people, places and issues are represented. The talk encouraged changing representations through genre film, TV, as well as videogames, and looked at how contemporary storytelling is giving voice to the under-represented.  The students will be using this excursion to support their Literacy classes in 2023.

Year 11 students are in the process of completing their final interviews and presentations. Students should be aware of their session time and have gone through this in class. If they have forgotten their time or wish to confirm they can find this under Resources in their PDS class. The final presentation and interviews are a requirement to completing the VCAL Intermediate Certificate.

All student work is due on the 2nd November. This date is not flexible. Students who are unable to submit all work to a satisfactory standard by this date will be required to organise an SSG with their Student Achievement Leader to discuss a plan for 2023. These students have been supported through Academic Detention where they have had access to a VCAL teacher to assist them.
