Jaki Upward

Art Exhibition

Wednesday the 12th of October saw the EMC community converge on the senior centre to celebrate the achievements of student work in the art domain for the 2022 Jaki Upward Exhibition.

Displays for all classes were spread throughout the top floor, allowing visitors to move between spaces and enjoy the exceptional artworks on offer.

A fashion parade also showcased VCE VET Applied Fashion and Technology clothing with a gamut of garments hitting the runway.

The Jaki Upward Award was won by Aaron Carpenter for his spectacular 3D printed Visual Communication Design work, marking the first time a Viscom student has won the award since its introduction in 2003.

A special thanks must go to all of the art teachers who put a great deal of time and effort into hosting the night and helping the artworks come to life over the past year, as well as Sarah Lyons from Bunjil Place for presenting the Jaki Upward Award.

JAKI UPWARD ART EXHIBITION FASHION PARADE

During the past 2 terms the students in VCE VET Applied Fashion and Technology from schools surrounding the Mornington Peninsula, have been preparing for the Jaki Upward Fashion Parade with garments they produced from their designs. On the night, clothing was showcased in front of an audience on the runway. This has been the first Jackie Upward Art Show and Fashion Parade to occur in 2 years following COVID lockdowns in Victoria. Each student did a stunning job walking down the runway and behind the scenes, developing garments to bring the show to life. The creativity of students in both first year and second year VET Fashion was incredible. So much effort was put into this show and the hard work paid off. An array of clothing was presented, from floor-length dresses to beautifully detailed tops and outerwear during the evening. We all enjoyed being a part of this art show and fashion parade and learning new skills that have helped our fashion experience progress for future exciting projects.

The fashion parade was really fun! I was able to show off my windcheater and the work I have done all year. I’m pretty sure when I first saw the crowd I immediately started hyperventilating. There were so many people just watching the runway, it was genuinely terrifying. I still got up and walked down the catwalk though, trying not to fall off and into the sea of people. Even though I was full of nerves and very anxious it was worth it to display all my hard work.
