Capturing Cockatoo Island

On Friday 21 October the Yr 11 Photography, Video and Digital Imaging Class visited Cockatoo Island to learn about the island and document its location. The class of 11 students, accompanied by Ms Doyle and Ms Bryant, explored the island and spent the day photographing the landscape and architecture with the intent of better understanding the history of the island. The boys split into groups with a checklist to fulfil before the end of the day, each of the groups were able to explore the island and document it through their own personal lens.       by  Nicholas Fragiacomo

The best thing about the day was the chance to bond over a love of photography, and experimentation with how you can capture the surroundings. Some challenges were being dive bombed by sea gulls, climbing lots of stairs, and holding off a chess challenge from Robbie Sapuppo in jumbo chess set while having lunch.      by  Zavier Domenici

This trip was very experimental and broadened my imaginative and technical range.  We had to photograph in low light conditions in the tunnels and the architecture provided opportunities to frame shots in new ways.       by  Harry Comerford

Year 11 Students Up-close

Laurence Kisten

Laurence joined St Pius X College in Year 7, 2018.

He is our only student to undertake the Italian Beginners course with the NSW School of Languages in 2022. Special thanks to Mrs Kara Manga, Languages Coordinator and Mrs Antonella Schiller, Diverse Learning.

Laurence has inspired many teachers over the years; he is always positive, organised, and keen to learn. In his younger years, Laurence’s energy sometimes compromised his attention to learning. Laurence has learned to transform his energy to his advantage. He is meticulously organised and responsible for timelines as well as being motivated to gain a full understanding of any task.

Laurence’s ability to work independently, especially with the online format of the NSW School of Languages has resulted in him being an enormous success story for languages, for his family and himself, and for all students with a diverse range of interests.

Well done, Laurence! You have sought help when you have needed it and you have taught us so much.

Siamo orgogliosi di Laurence!
