Young Endeavour Youth Scheme

Applications for the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme for voyages from January to June 2023 are now open. This is a world recognized youth development program, which since 1988, has been conducted on board Young Endeavour. It has evolved into a highly acclaimed program which encourages young Australians to achieve their full potential. Since 1988, more than 14000 young Australians aged 16-23 have joined national sail training ship Young Endeavour on a life-changing voyage.

The emphasis of each voyage is on building skills and attributes to develop each participant into a better team player, a more effective communicator and leader – skills that are readily transferable to everyday life and career settings.

How to apply

To sail in Young Endeavour you need to apply online. Applications are chosen by ballot, which is like a lottery. This helps provide equitable access to the program and ensures a mix of youth crew join each voyage. There are two ballots a year. If you are unsuccessful on your first application, you can update your voyage preferences for more chances to join the crew. There are no fees to apply. You simply submit an application at any time.

Who can join a voyage

To apply you need to be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, aged 16-23 years, weigh less than 120kg, be able to swim 50m and in general good health. No sailing experience is required.
