Year 10/11 Work Experience

In the final week of Term 3, our Year 10 and 11 students had the opportunity to experience the world of work for a week. Thank you to Stacey from SWLLEN (South West Local Learning and Employment Network), for all your work in placing our students and to all the businesses, both local and further afield, who were willing and able to take our students on. The feedback has been very positive. It has been especially exciting to see one of our Year 11 students offered an Apprenticeship coming out of Work Experience, congratulations Ben, and another of our Year 11 students offered a Part Time employment position, congratulations Elsa. Many other businesses have said they would welcome back students for gap year placements or future work experience.

Our students were placed within the following businesses locally:

  • ASAP Plumbing
  • Fresh Finish Master Painting
  • Jane Dough
  • King’s College
  • Merri River School
  • Mr Walter Graphic Design
  • One Day Studios
  • Opal Gillin Park Aged Care
  • Penry Routson Optometrist
  • PM Design Group
  • SWD Legal
  • Southern Right Therapy
  • Warrnambool Library
  • Warrnambool East Primary
  • Warrnambool Primary
  • Warrnambool R.S.L
  • Warrnambool Vet Clinic

We also had a couple  of students go further afield:

  • 360 Aviation
  • Top Dog Kennels

Some of our student reflections on the experience:

"It was an enjoyable and worthwhile experience and I am glad I did it"

"At first I was a bit unsure what a school I had never had anything to do with would be like and how it operated but in the end it was a good school to be placed at".

What did you learn about OT?
"That they help people reach their full potential"

What was a highlight?
"It was seeing an eye specialist do eye injections and learning about how lenses are made and cut for glasses".

"Some advice I would give to the Year 9 students as they do work experience next year would be to just choose something you think would be fun to do and something that you might not have had much experience in".

Year 12 Final Week Celebrations

This week marks the final week of formal classes for our Year 12 students. As a way to celebrate with their peers across the school, Year 12 chose to run some lunch time  activities that reflected back on some of their younger years. These activities included:

Monday - Musical Chairs

Tuesday - Red Light Green Light & ‘What’s the Time Mr Wolf?’

Wednesday - Disco

Thursday - Kahoot: 'What do other students know about our Year 12 students?'

On Thursday evening, the Year 12 students remained at school a little longer than usual, to enjoy some pizza together and to decorate a couple of the classrooms for the enjoyment of the rest of the school to see on Friday morning. This has always been a fun activity as each year the rest of the school looks forward to seeing the creative genius of that year’s Year 12 group at work. I am always amazed at the new, fun ideas each group comes up with.

Well done Year 12 on accomplishing the completion of High School. We wish you all the best as you sit the VCE exams in the coming month, and as you step out into the exciting plans God has in store for you.

VCE Exam Preparation

For our students studying VCE Unit 3 & 4 subjects, there were optional revision lectures and examination practice sessions over the holidays. Our VCE Further Mathematics and Mathematical Methods classes were able to sample both of their upcoming examinations under exam conditions and join together for a lovely picnic lunch. It was a great opportunity to get an accurate picture of what skills and concepts need further practice. Please remember to uphold all our Year 12 students in your prayers as they prepare for their final examinations beginning in late October.

School Veggie Garden

We have had a great harvest of Broccoli and Silver Beet in our school veggie garden. We were able to make beef stir-fry with them in Year 8 Food Tech. Our peas are sprouting and our Tomato plants are growing nicely. Thank you to one of our parents for donating some fruit and veggie plants. We look forward to being able to provide Strawberries for fruit snacks in the Junior School and for making cakes in the Senior School.
