Teaching and Learning

What a busy first few weeks of Term 4, with so many fabulous learning activities across the school.

Sealife Excursion - Level 1 and Level 2

In Week 2, our Level 1 and 2 students had a fabulous day at their Sea life excursion to compliment the learning happening in their Water Works inquiry unit in Term 4. Students explored the Melbourne Aquarium, meeting many new and fascinating creatures and learning about sea life.

Swimming - Foundation and Level 3

Our Foundation and Level 3 students participated in a 5 day intensive swimming program  from Monday 17th October until Friday 21st October.  Our students travelled daily to Aquanation in Ringwood, where the were grouped into ability levels and taught by qualified swimming instructors. The final day, on Friday included a fun water activity day.

Thank you to all of the parent helpers for your assistance daily.

Build a Watercraft - Level 4

In the coming weeks, Level 4 will be working on a STEM task, where they will be asked to individually design, plan, draw and build a watercraft vessel that can float and support weight. Requirements for the task include:

  • the vessel must include at least 3 different types of angles - acute, right and obtuse
  • the vessel can be no longer than 30cm
  • the vessel must float and be able to support at least 100 grams in weight
  • the vessel must have a sail

Students will be provided with a variety of materials that can be used to construct their vessel, however students are also encouraged to bring some recyclable materials such as milk cartons, paper towel rolls, small plastic bottles, styrofoam, foil, lids, fabric, cork etc.

After construction, students will test the strength and buoyancy of each vessel by placing coins on the surface. The aim is to build a vessel that can hold the most amount of weight.

We look forward to some photos of these vessels in future weeks in the school newsletter!

Excursion to the German Club Tivoli - Level 6

In celebration of German language learning at Rangeview, our Level 6 students visited the German Club Tivioli in Prahran on Wednesday 19th October. Students experienced:

  • a scrumptious German lunch
  • a presentation with a focus on German culture and geography by the president of Club Tivoli
  • a games room with billiard tables, table tennis and soccer
  • singing and dancing with German songs

A wonderful day was had by all!

Family Life 'Talk About It' Sessions - Level 6

Over 5 weeks, our Level 6 students are participating in the Family Life 'Talk About It' sessions. Talk About It is an age-appropriate personal development program for students in Year 6 covering puberty, reproduction, healthy relationships, and identity and we combine this at school with our Respectful Relationships curriculum. Our teaching framework is student-centered, interactive and ensures all content is delivered in a sensitive, factual and age-appropriate manner.

We acknowledge and respect that parents/carers are the primary educators of their children. The Talk About It program is designed to complement and support these discussions at home. We encourage you to speak to your child before and after the sessions to clarify any questions or concerns.

Please contact your child's teacher if you have and questions, concerns or would like further information.

AGTV State Final German Poetry Competition

On Saturday 15th October, 5 of our very talented German students competed in the AGTV State Final German Poetry Competition at the Austrian Club in Heidelberg, accompanied by Frau Taylor and families.  Congratulations to Flynn and Molly from 5/6W, Will and Josephine from 5/6G and Siddharth from 5/6C on your outstanding effort.

Uniform

It is important that all students are in school uniform and are adhering to our school uniform policy.

The wearing of a school uniform creates a sense of collective and individual pride in our school, as well as giving our students a sense of belonging. Equality is fostered by a uniform policy common to all students. At Rangeview Primary school, our school uniform policy supports students in the areas of equality, health and safety.

A reminder of some of the guidelines in the policy:

  • Correct school uniform should be worn during school hours, travelling to and from school and on excursions and sports days.
  • Jewellery must be kept to a minimum (stud / sleeper earrings and non-smart watches are acceptable).
  • Extreme non-natural hair colours (e.g. pink, green, purple blue etc.) are not permitted.
  • Cosmetics must not be worn at school. Clear nail polish only.
  • Hats worn during the Sunsmart months must be the school uniform hat.
  • Non school uniform items such as coats and scarves are not to be worn

If your child cannot be sent to school in uniform, please ensure you provide written communication, either via email or a written note.

Our School Uniform Policy is available on the school website

Before and After School Student Supervision

All schools have a legal duty of care to ensure the safety of their students. At no time can children be left unattended in the playground without adult supervision. School playgrounds are supervised by staff from 8.45am each morning and until 3.45pm in the afternoon. Prior to this time and after this time, supervision is not available and we ask that children are not left in the playground unattended at any time.

Over the past few weeks we have observed some students arriving at school without supervision very early. We ask that for the safety of your child, this does not occur.

OSH Club is the Outside School Hours Care service available at Rangeview Primary School. This service is available from 7.00am until 8.45am each school morning and from 3.30pm until 6.00pm each weekday evening.  Bookings can be made by calling 1300395735 or by going to the website  oshclub.com.au.
