Rangeview Oktoberfest 2022
Our annual Rangeview Oktoberfest celebration will be held on Thursday, 27th October.
Students are invited to dress in either:
- The colours of the German flag: black, red and gold (yellow)
- The colours of the Bavarian flag: blue and white
- The traditional Bavarian costumes: Dirndlkleid and Lederhose
Students will receive their German pretzels and gingerbread hearts on Oktoberfest day (if previously ordered).
The day will commence with a whole-school assembly in the hall, involving performances by the junior and senior choirs, whole-school action songs, a Foundation dance and parade of ‘best-dressed’ students. Parents/guardians are welcome to attend the assembly which will commence at 9:20 am.
After recess students will have the opportunity to engage in fun, cultural German games, craft and cooking activities in multi-age groups.
Students have been learning about the Munich Oktoberfest in German lessons and preparing for this special day by making Oktoberfest hats and singing the song ‘Mein Hut, der hat drei Ecken’ (My hat, it has three corners).
We wish your child lots of fun on Oktoberfest day!

Grade 6 Excursion to Club Tivoli
On Wednesday, 19th October our Grade 6 students visited the German Club Tivoli in Prahran, as a celebration of their language learning at Rangeview Primary School.
Students were welcomed by the president of the club, Dieter, who entertained everyone with interesting stories about the history of Oktoberfest, ‘Lederhosen’ and the German mugs (or ‘Steins’).
Chris, the talented accordion player, further entertained students with songs they could sing and ‘schunkel’ (sway with linked arms) along to.
After a delicious lunch of schnitzel, French fries, salad and apple strudel or bee sting cakes, students were invited into the ‘Bauernstube’ to play table tennis, billiards and table soccer.
Finally students were able to put on their dancing shoes and sing and dance along to some of their favourite German songs learnt in German lessons at school.
We were delighted by the many smiling faces and good behaviour that our students demonstrated throughout this excursion.
Wir wünschen euch alles Gute für die Zukunft!
(We wish you all the best for the future!)
How to support your child’s German at home
A song you can practice with your children
Mein Hut, der hat drei Ecken
Mein Hut, der hat drei Ecken.
Drei Ecken hat mein Hut.
Und hat er nicht drei Ecken,
dann ist er nicht mein Hut
Viel Spaß und Vergnügen!
Should you have any queries about how to best support your child’s German language development, we would love to hear from you.
