Flora & Fauna
We are currently in Rotation 7, our second last rotation before the end of the year. If you have 90 minutes on a Tuesday between 11:30am to 1:00pm and are able to help out in our gallery with cooking or out in our grounds and gardens, please just turn up on the day and sign in at the office. We appreciate all the help we can receive, especially with cooking. The roster is below for your reference.
COOKING: Students are learning how to make oven baked spring rolls in rotation 6 and have been busy learning how to julienne vegetables and wrap them with rice noodles in spring roll wrappers. Of the taste testing we have been lucky enough to engage in, they certainly are yummy! Thank you again to Mrs O’Keefe for creating a student friendly recipe and of course for doing all the shopping and preparation.
GARDENING: Students have planted out the bush tucker garden in front of the 34V and 3M portables and we are very grateful for the donation of seedlings from Whitehorse Council. We look forward to watching this beautiful garden flourish!
SUSTAINABILITY: Students are investigating the topic of ‘Caring for Country with Fire’ and we are delighted to incorporate Indigenous perspectives into our Flora and Fauna program. They have been busy exploring the Kulin and Gariwerd calendars of Aboriginal seasons and how these differ to the more familiar seasons of Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring. Additionally, students have been learning about how Aboriginal people use fire management to look after the land.
SCIENCE: During rotation 7 students are learning about Australian native animals. They are investigating an animal of their choice by researching details about the animal’s habitat, predators, diet, life span, Aboriginal name and other interesting facts. Their completed report can be located in their Seesaw journal.
As always, thank you for your ongoing support of this wonderful program!
