Brevet Blanc & Év@lang certification

Congratulations to our 9F Binational students who successfully sat their second practice Brevet des Collèges, otherwise known as Brevet blanc.  This practice session took place over two consecutive days; on Monday 3 April, students sat their French and Science practice sessions, followed by Humanities (Histoire-Géographie/EMC) and Maths the next day.

Last week, this cohort of students also sat their Ev@lang collège certification.  This online language assessment enables French students to be assessed on their English skills.

Once again, congratulations to those students who are now a step closer to being fully prepared for their real Brevet examination which will take place at the end of Term 2.

Year 8 Science French Partial Immersion

As part of their investigation into the respiratory system of living organisms, Year 8 Partial Immersion students were given the task of making a lung model, to understand both the similarities of the human respiratory system and the limits of such a working model.  This was not an easy task but students persevered in building their model.  Well done!

What’s happening in our French classrooms?

In Year 7, students have started to memorise their lines in preparation for their group performance of the play Les trois petits cochons, which will take place early Term 2.  We look forward to watching their entertaining performances.

Our Year 8 students have been learning about sports and leisure activities.  They can now confidently talk about their favourite sport and which sport they play.  They were also able to practise their verb conjugations while playing battleships in French!

Year 9 students have been practising their general conversation.  They are becoming very confident at answering questions about themselves and their family.

Our Year 10 students focused on being able to describe the past and how things used to be.

Our Year 12 VCE students have been learning about youth and values shared by different generations of people.  Students were invited to interview their family members, then share their findings with their classmates in French.  Well done!

Such topics and activities are all great examples of making connections to our students’ lives.

Year 10 & 11 IB French cinema excursion

This week, our Year 10 and 11 IB students travelled to the city to make the most of the Alliance Francaise French Film Festival, as they watched the French film Tenor directed by Claude Zidi Jr.  This inspiring movie relates the story of a young man in suburban Paris who discovers by chance the world of the opera and his hidden talent.  Students and staff alike enjoyed the film very much.

Alliance française French Film Festival

The 2023 edition of the French Film Festival in Melbourne is coming to an end.  If you haven’t had a chance to go and see some of the films on offer, it is not too late!  Here are a couple of family movie recommendations from the French AHS staff:
