HEALTH & PE

T1 2023

This term has been very exciting one right from the beginning with the introduction of our new HPE teacher Georgia Lillis. She has fit in perfectly to our ethos here at Hackham East and her vision for Health and PE is seamless with Mrs Martins. All the students and staff love having her happy personality here with us. So, a great big Welcome to Georgia.

Term 1 has been based around Striking games and the skills, fundamental movement skills and strategies needed to be developed to play these games. The main game we have been developing through is Baseball. We have been lucky enough to have Baseball SA developer Austin come out from weeks 3 – 6 to work with our year 6’s, 4/5’s, 3/4’s and our 1/2’s. Austin is an American import who has played in the major league for the LA dodgers and has come to develop players in Australia whilst playing in the Australian team himself, hence, we are extremely lucky to be learning from such an amazing player.

This year I’m proud to say that we had forty-five applicants for the SSC (specialist sports course). The number of students by the end of the term 1 in the program will be 20.  The initial trials for the SSC were completed in the first five week of term and we are now down to a short list of 25 students. Students will be chosen for the course pending their behaviour throughout the school, their application to their home learning and their physical and tactical sports development. Congratulation and Goodluck to the following 25 students who have made the short list.
