FRENCH

T1 2023

Bonjour à tous! Hello everyone!

It has been a wonderful start to the year, with students demonstrating their School Values and the Golden Rule in each lesson. Reception students have shown great interest in learning a new language other new students have settled well into learning a language different from their previous schools.

FRENCH PADLET

This year I’d like to introduce a new French learning tool for students to use at home. If you click on the link below you will have access to a variety of different videos which I will be adding to as the year progresses. This includes numbers, colours, days of the week and other French language. Parents and caregivers are also encouraged to listen along and learn some French too.

CASTLE CLASSES

Castle students spent the beginning of the year learning words and phrases which help with simple conversations. Through a variety of songs, games and activities, they know that bonjour, salut and coucou are all ways to greet someone. Students can say au revoir to say goodbye, but also could use à bientôt and à demain. To introduce themselves, students have been practicing “Je m’appelle” followed by their name. We have now moved onto numbers and will then explore colours, before learning all about Pâques (French Easter).

HOLLY CLASSES

The Holly students found out about Madame Mawson’s time in France and then reflected on their own feelings about traveling to another country. They practiced asking how someone is and replying with how they feel, and discovered that the term “Ça va” can actually be used to make an entire conversation! Students then revised how to talk about themselves, such as telling their name, age, where they live and if they have siblings. They created paper hands to share this information with others. Now students will be revising numbers to 50 and beyond and exploring the celebration of Pâques (French Easter).

STILLWELL CLASSES

Stillwell students spent the first few lessons discussing how they would like their French lessons to look, sound and feel. After this, they used games to practice how to introduce themselves and talk about themselves. They used their listening skills to recognise information from unfamiliar texts and demonstrated their translating skills by using French dictionaries to find unknown words. Students were then able to write sentences about themselves for others to read. After a few lessons on numbers to 100, students will finish the term reflecting on the celebration of Pâques (French Easter).

Merci! Madame Mawson
