Year Three

Dear Year Three Families,

What a fantastic term we have had! All students in Year Three are to be commended on their outstanding effort this Term.

Reading

This week in Reading, students have explored visualising. Visualising is when readers create pictures in their minds using clues and descriptive details from the text. Students read the text called, ‘When the Wind Changed’ by Ruth Park and had the opportunity to draw

the images they visualised to support the text.

Writing

In Writing this week, students had the opportunity to compose their own persuasive text on a topic they are passionate about. Students used their Writer’s Notebook to brainstorm topics they felt strongly about. Students composed a persuasive text using the OREO structure to write a strong persuasive argument. The Year Three’s also experimented by using persuasive techniques, such as, repetition, rhetorical questions and statistics to improve their writing.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, the Year Three students have continued to learn about Patterns and Algebra. Students have worked collaboratively to identify rules in patterns. Students have also identified the number operation being used to create and continue a pattern. From here, students have been able to make connections of how patterns are used in the real world.

Inquiry

Students have nearly come to the end of our first Unit of Inquiry on, ‘Rules and Laws contribute to developing a more productive society.’  This week, students came up with scenarios of what the world would look like without any laws. Students established the importance of rules and laws in our world and what the impacts would be if rules and laws didn’t exist. Students worked to create a comic strip of what a lawless society would look like.

Students have been working hard to research ideas for their action pieces that they will be presenting to their class this week. Students have chosen to present their action pieces in a number of ways, for example, through a poster, iMovie, dance or book. We look forward to having each student present their action pieces.

We celebrated Harmony Day as a school on Friday 31st March. Harmony Day was a day where we to celebrated and acknowledged our culture diversity at Saltwater P-9 College. The Year Three’s had a fabulous day!
