Assistant Principal's Message

Dear parents and carers,

It’s been another exciting couple of weeks at Roxburgh Homestead PS. It’s been so great spending time with students across all year levels and seeing some amazing work being produced. The senior school students have been developing their Change Projects which are being presented amongst the cohort. A focus on speaking and listening during their presentations will be interesting to note.

Some of our Middle School students have been utilizing Minecraft to test the impact of various rules and laws on a society. It will be great to see how some of these Minecraft worlds evolve and how the student will be able to explain their learning process to others.

As part of their Inquiry, junior school students have a had a role in the organization of Tabloid sports and the Color Run as a launch to our Harmony week activities.

NAPLAN

The annual Naplan testing period began this week with students in years 3 and 5 taking the opportunity to show their learning growth over the last few years. The scheduled testing period is earlier in the year than in the past but thanks to Matt Markmann and his organizational skills for having the students and teachers all prepared.

Student Leadership

Steph and Hulya had a wonderful experience a couple of weeks ago when they took some of our student leaders to the Melbourne Convention Centre for a student conference focusing on leadership skills. Many of our student leaders are taking a more prominent role around the school taking on tasks such as running community assemblies, organizing fundraisers, and giving suggestions about areas of school improvements.

Although some students, particularly in the senior school, have official leadership titles we want all students at Homestead to understand that they have a leadership role in the school. Whether that is displayed by being an upstander and not a bystander, by showing our school values in the way they do things around the school or by leading themselves and ensuring they are always working to the best of their abilities. We are all leaders, and we all have a role in making our school the best place it can be.

Thanks

Pat
