Relieving Deputy Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,
This term certainly has gone quickly, it feels like only yesterday that I was sitting down to write the first newsletter item of the year…! And what a productive term we have had. This term we have welcomed our had our wonderful new Preschool and Kindergarten students - we can’t imagine school without them! We have hosted school events and activities including our swimming carnival, Harmony Day celebrations, International Day of Mathematics, Backflips Against Bullying, our author visit with Phillip Gywnne, multiple sporting activities and K-2 gymnastics. But, most importantly, our students have been busy learning in classrooms, the Library and Digital Technology Lab, and in learning support and enrichment groups.
I have thoroughly enjoyed working with students, staff and families in the role as Deputy Principal over the past five terms. As I say to our students, I have the best job in the world - to make sure they are safe and happy! Thank you for your support and I look forward to beginning my role as Assistant Principal Curriculum and Instruction in Term 2.
ATTENDANCE
This year, we are aiming for students at Oak Flats Public School, to have an attendance rate of 90% and above.
It has been fantastic to see our whole school attendance rates remain steady this term with an average of 90% from P-6. Over the past fortnight, our whole school attendance rates have been very pleasing. Our whole school attendance rate is 98.75%, with our Kindergarten girls again leading the way at 97% and 96% of our Year 2 students attending school every day. Congratulations Oak Flats Public School and keep up the wonderful effort!
On occasion, students may need to be absent from school. Justified reasons for student absences may include:
- being sick or having an infectious disease
- having an unavoidable medical appointment
- being required to attend a recognised religious holiday
- exceptional or urgent family circumstances.
Please remember that following an absence, parents and carers are required to explain the absence within 7 days of the first day of a student’s absence. Absences can be explained via email, phone, replying to SMS notifications, or via a letter on return to school. After three days absence, a medical certificate is required.
SCHOOL MURAL
This term, Ms Higgins has been working with students across the school in Creative Arts Enrichment Groups. One of the projects that she is undertaking is a mini-beast mural which students have planned and are painting together. It is looking outstanding and we cannot wait to see the finished product!
Have a safe and relaxing holiday!
Warm regards,
Emily Chatterton
