CHESS CLUB

CHESS AND CODING CLUB

Last week the Year 3 and 4 students were given the wonderful opportunity of learning about the game of chess, asking questions and then practicing what they have learnt.  This week it is the Year 5 and 6 students' turn, followed by Year 1 and 2.

Chess is the original and enduring "thought sport" played throughout the world and has many benefits for young people.  These include improved cognitive skills as well as self confidence and resilience.

Coding hones problem-solving and analysis skills, such as finding errors and thinking logically. Further, coding often helps people develop teamwork and interpersonal skills. The benefits of learning to code are:

  • Logical thinking - no easy task, but easier with coding.
  • Creativity can be nurtured via coding.
  • Structural thinking - seeing the patterns.
  • Persistence and resilience - the keys to success.
  • Algorithmic thinking.
  • Math skills are made more comprehensible by coding.

There are 15 MPS students who have already signed up.  If you would like your child/ren to learn how to play chess or how to code please register your interest by clicking on the link below:
