 Ride2School Day

National Ride2School Day is Australia’s biggest celebration of active travel.

Over the past 40 years the number of children who are physically active everyday has significantly dropped. In the 1970s, eight out of ten students rode or walked to school but today that number has dropped to just two out of ten.

Students who ride or walk to school contribute to their minimum physical activity level of 60 minutes per day. They are also more focused and ready to learn compared to those who are driven.

On Friday 24th of March we would love to see as many students as possible ride their bike or scooter to school. If you cannot ride, then walk to school. If you live too far away to walk  you can get dropped off closer to school and walk part of the way.

On the day we are hosting a 'Decorate your Helmet' parade. So we can't wait to  see what wonderful ideas you can come up with. The Junior School council will be collecting a gold coin donation to raise money for new sports equipment to encourage Marlborough Students to be physically active at school.

Harmony Day

Harmony Week is taking place in from the 20th March to the 27th March. We will be celebrating as a school on Tuesday the 21st March.  It is a time to celebrate Australian multiculturalism, and the successful integration of migrants into our community. The message of Harmony Week is 'everyone belongs.' It is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values.

To celebrate Harmony Day students and staff are asked to wear the colour orange. This is the official colour of Harmony Day. Wearing something orange on March 21st Harmony Day shows that you believe in an inclusive Australia where everyone is welcome and everyone belongs.  Students will be participating in Harmony Day activities on March 21st as  house groups.

Students are also invited to participate in the official Harmony Day Poster Competition. Students can individually or in groups, create a poster to reflect the theme 'Living in Harmony' . The artworks must be A3 in size and can be any medium – drawing, painting or mixed media.   Entries are open until the 16th April 2023. Prizes are available for the winning entry primary school entry of $500 and the a prize of $500 to the school.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

During PE lessons over two weeks, Foundation and Grade 1/2 students had Stephen Hoy from Zenith Tennis Academy volunteer his time to teach students tennis skills. The students enjoyed the fun tennis activities and minor games. All students were given a flyer which gives them a free lesson at Heathmont Tennis club.  Tennis is a great sport to learn, it is fun, good for eye hand coordination, fitness, and socialisation and is in our local Heathmont area. Make use of your free Instructive lesson.
