From the Deputy Principal

Megan Nertney

Good Afternoon Families,

What beautiful weather we have been having this week!

We have had a busy couple of weeks at Living Waters. Our school has been out and about within the community in different ways, Year 6 Interschool cricket, excursion to the tip, two Year 6 students attended the ASTC International Women's Day morning tea and much more.

Next week our Year 3 and Year 5 children are participating in the NAPLAN tests. NAPLAN is a national literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3,5,7 and 9 sit each year. It is the only national assessment all Australian students have the opportunity to undertake.  Students sit assessments in writing, reading, spelling, grammar, punctuationipn and numeracy. The questions assess content linked to the Australian Curriculum: English and Mathematics.

Online NAPLAN tests provide more precise results and are more engaging for students. One of the main benefits is tailored (or adaptive) testing, where the test presents questions which may be more or less difficult depending on a student’s responses.

Students are not expected to study for NAPLAN. You can support your child by reassuring them that NAPLAN is a part of their school program and reminding them to simply do their best, have a good night's sleep and eat a good breakfast. At school we will provide some Milo for those students completing the test.

See the types of questions and tools available in the online NAPLAN assessments at nap.edu.au/onlineassessment/public-demonstration-site.

We remember that this is just a snapshot of how the students are going on one day and wish our Year 3s and 5s all the best.
