Arts News

Recently some of our Year Elevens and Twelves have had the pleasure of attending art camp.

We started off this year's camp with a rough start, leaving half an hour later than planned. But from there we had smooth sailing all the way to Ruocco's Restaurant in Perth, where the portion sizes were massive and the food delicious. From here we went to our chalets in Cottesloe, unpacked and then set off for a little night walk around Sculptures by the Sea. It was great to see the talent of many wonderful artists.

The next day we woke up bright and early to go draw by the beach. A beautiful clear morning joined us as we ate toast and cereal, in preparation for the walk to the train station where we caught the train into Perth.

In Perth we explored the WA Museum Boola Bardip, where we all wished we had more time to experience its full beauty.

From there we toured the Art Gallery of Western Australia, finding Yoshimoto Nara’s exhibition an incredible and unique experience. Closely followed up by the insightful Exquisite Bodies workshop where we explored the surrealist ambiguity of figures.

We then got on the bus and travelled to John Curtin Gallery, where we saw the beautiful perspectives of the Māori culture. We walked around Curtin and found a James Giddy mural too.

After all our visitations throughout the day we went back to our chalets to rest up in preparation for the ballet and dinner later that night. The dinner had wonderful ocean views and the ballet was a breathtaking unique performance. A beautiful theatre in which we watched as the dancers display incredible skill. We stopped at Maccas on the way home as a last little treat before bed.

On our last day we started the morning with a stroll by the Sculptures by the Sea, then headed off to the Fremantle Arts Centre where we all took part in a ceramic workshop. There were some goofy creations as we sat in their beautiful courtyard.  It was a charming way to end the camp as we set off back home.

It was an amazing experience and we’re all extremely grateful for the opportunity.
