There are actually lots of opportunities to investigate math at the local swimming pool. So not only can your child be having fun, they can be learning some real life math as well! 

Here are some questions you can ask to get your child thinking mathematical and problem solving:

- How many strokes do you estimate it would take to get from one end of the pool to the other? 

- What would happen if you used a different swim style? Would you use more strokes or less?

- How deep is the pool? 

- Is that deeper than your height? 

- What is about the same height? 

- How long does it take to do 1 lap? Can you beat your time?

- If you keep a consistent time, how long will it take to do 4 laps?

- How many laps in 600m? How far is 3 laps? 

- How many adults are needed for 12 seven year olds? 

- How many laps in 600m? 

- How far is 3 laps?
