From the Principal Class Team

Dear Parents and Guardians

During Education Week, we celebrated the significant contributions of our Teaching and Education Support staff to St Albans Secondary College, and to education more broadly, through recognition of their years of service in school education.

Through their work at St Albans and at other schools, these staff members have influenced the lives of so many young people; they have supported families and colleagues, have inspired and challenged their students; and contributed in a huge variety of ways to our school.

Congratulations to the following staff on their years of service.

This represents a combined 300 years of service to the Department of Education and Training, and 245 years to St Albans Secondary College.

Sunshine Hospital – Balcony Makeover

Earlier this week, Ms Tracey D’Elton and Ms Kerrie Dowsley had the pleasure of attending the project presentation by the Year 12 VCAL students who partnered with the Sunshine Hospital for their Personal Development Skills (PDS) Major project.

The students took an unused, and very drab balcony area, and through hard work, collaboration, clever design and thrifty shopping, turned it into a stunning outdoor space for patients and their families.

They designed and constructed a timber table, a bench seat, and planter boxes; made cushions; laid a rubberised floor and artificial turf; painted and resurfaced walls; constructed a large Connect 4 game and planted out box garden beds.

It was so inspiring to listen to the VCAL students talk about their partnerships with Sunshine Hospital, and the impact that they sought to have through this on the wellbeing and health of patients in the Rehabilitation Ward. As part of their project, they volunteered at the opening of the Joan Kirner Hospital for Mothers and Babies, and at Walk West, a fundraiser for the hospital.

Congratulations to the Year 12 VCAL Students involved in the partnership:

Sarah Mollica, Grace Mason, Jessica Panayi, Vikram Chouhan, Toby Collins-Smith, Aaron Didio, Andrew Trinh, Alison Nguyen, Colleen Tupou, Chi Vien Nguyen, Yoonus Muhuseen, Edward Huang & David Orellana

And to VCAL teachers Ms Marlene Cassar and Ms Laura Gough for their support of this amazing project.
