WINDSOR EXCHANGE

THE WINDSOR GARDENS/CHELTENHAM   EXCHANGE

The tradition continues……

They called it Chelt, we call it Windsor. And it has been happening since 1965.

Windsor Gardens School B-12 in Adelaide and Cheltenham Secondary College have achieved the unique distinction in Australia of being able to maintain and support an annual Exchange for 53 years. It is believed to be the oldest continually run competition between Government schools in Australia. It is an effort to be extremely proud of.

Netball, soccer, chess, debating, football, hockey and volleyball were all part of the first Exchange. Athletics, swimming, baseball, softball, golf, tennis and squash have all come and gone. It has been an extraordinary effort by thousands of people over the years to nurture and develop the Exchange from what it was in 1965 to its versatility in 2017. With the captain’s games, indoor cricket, jigsaw, touch football, dramatic games and music the latest additions, the Exchange now boasts 27 events.

Students from any year level may compete. School enrolments and the number of events are used to determine the winner. The two schools compete for the Exchange Shield, the Interstate Cup and the Captain’s Games Plate.

The Exchange has witnessed fierce rivalry, champions in the making and even a wedding. Students today compete in events that their parents were once in. This is the history. This is the tradition.

The 2017 Exchange selection process has started with over 180 students signing up. Training starts on Tuesday, 21st February. The final squad of about 80 students will be selected by the end of Term 1.

On Sunday, 25th June, Cheltenham will travel over to Adelaide to compete in the 53rd Exchange. 27 events over 3 days with just 80 students. Now that’s a challenge!

Let the tradition continue……
