Student work
Perception;
You see the models on a magazine you’re reading,
Then decide to skip dinner that night.
You look at yourself in the mirror the next morning,
And decide to skip breakfast too.
You watch the skinny girls at your school,
And decide to not eat that salad you prepared for yourself.
You ignore the growling and rumbling of your stomach,
And again decide to not eat dinner again.
You lose a few kilos that week,
And think, hey this is easy,
And then forget to eat for another 7 days.
Your parents start to notice,
They frown knowing they can’t do anything to stop it.
You stare at your body in the mirror,
Seeing your ribs sticking out,
You frown and think this is not enough
You start to not hang out with friends anymore,
Why hang out if all they do is eat?
Your family worry,
Will she ever eat again?
You start to become obsessed,
Forgetting about everything you once cared about,
Only caring about seeing your bones,
In everything you wear.
What you haven’t realised is,
Nobody cares what you looked like,
Only what you were on the inside.
