Literacy

Literacy Links Fairhills

Our Literacy program has begun this year with great energy.  Over the past few weeks, all Year 8 students participated in our first cross-subject literacy workshops.  The students explored the skill of visualising what they read.  They practised making movies in their mind while reading and discussed how this skill is useful with all reading and in all subject areas.  They are all out and about in classes, practising visualising while reading.  I look forward to their feedback on how focusing on this skill while reading is helping them with their reading comprehension in all their subjects.

The Year 7 & 8 students deserve a big thankyou for their enthusiasm and willingness to share their insights with each other.

Thank you to the following teachers for their participation and assistance in the workshops. Jeremy Klitzing, Vince D'Amico and Christine Shipley from the Maths department, Gary Johnson and Anthony Hitchman from the English department and Julie Cox and Jo Rogers from Humanities.

Thank you also to the following students who assisted as Workshop Leaders with their Year 7 & 8 peers during the workshops.  Tyler Asche, Drew Battisson, Victoria Chinn, Jake Clancy, Charlotte Fullgrabe, Aaron Emmerson, Brianna Gerakis, Jayde Malcolm-May, Bayley Wright, William Berrett, Ryan Bradley-Lawton, Jordyn Currie, Liam Dionissopoulos, Jemma McCardle, Jayde McClintock, Ethan Moreton, Jaymee Slezacek Pierce and  Ashlin Smedley .
