STUDENT DROP OFF AND COLLECTION

Dear Community,

Due to the extensive building works at the school, the McCutcheon Way entry  footpath has been cordoned off . To assist families with drop off and collection of students during this time we advise that all student drop offs and collections are at the Vere St entrance to the school.

School will have a staff member at this site to assist with traffic congestion and student safety.

WELCOME PICNIC AND OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF FRONT FENCE - FRIDAY, 1 MARCH

The Welcome Picnic for all Collingwood College families and staff will take place on Friday, 1 March. This year there will be an added special occasion as we officially launch the Front Fence designed by Collingwood College parent, Sally Nansen. There will be food for sale. You can also bring your own. There will also be some entertainment during the picnic.

Look out for more details over the following weeks.

We are seeking families to volunteer to tidy up the front fence area of the school, weed, place mulch, whipper snip etc. Sally Nansen along with other parents are planning working bees on Thursday afternoons starting next week on 14 February leading up to the event.  Please come along from 2pm for a few hours and lend a hand.  This will really help to make the official launch a very special occasion.

SPORT AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION NEWS

House Sport Carnivals

Collingwood College will be holding two House Sport Carnivals during Semester 1. Our Swimming Carnival will take place at Fitzroy Pool on Tuesday, 12th March and our Athletics Carnival on Tuesday, 28th May at the Collingwood Harriers Athletics Track. Both days are considered ‘normal’ school days and as such it is expected that all students attend. There is a history at Collingwood College of students dressing up in House Colours and a ‘Best Dressed’ competition is held at each event.

Interschool Sport

Collingwood College participates in the ‘School Sport Victoria’ Sporting Program. We enter teams into a ‘Round Robin’ competition with local schools in the Moreland District. Different sports are offered in each term and successful teams advance to Region Finals. There is an associated cost for participating in the Inter-School Sports Program - $10 per student. This helps contribute to the upkeep of Team Uniforms, Equipment and Transport. Payment and Permission is given through the Compass Portal and must be completed prior to the event in order for students to attend. Students can participate in one sport per term. Sports for Term 1 are as follows:- Tennis and Volleyball.

Timetabled Sport

Participation is the main goal of these sessions and students are encouraged to experience a range of games. There is an expectation the students change into their PE attire for this session – we would greatly appreciate your assistance in ensuring PE attire is brought to school for both PE and Sport sessions. For any questions regarding the Sports Program, please feel free to contact me at school.

I don’t think we could have asked for a better commencement to the year. Most students remembered to attend school on the correct day, classes have been found easily and teachers have been quite happy with the calm and positive attitude that
