Principal's Report

Dear Collingwood College community,
Firstly I would like to thank students, staff and parents for making such a great start to the school year. Teachers have been busy preparing for our students return and classes have hit the ground running with a purposeful enthusiastic tone around the school.
What an exciting start to the school year we have had with around 860 students returning to Collingwood College. Of this number, we have welcomed 68 new students in Primary, 46 in Secondary and 8 in ELC and Collingwood Alternative School. Welcome to our wonderful College!!
It is always brilliant to see the joy on the faces of a new class of prep students and this year was no exception! We welcomed 58 of the greatest young students you could hope for and the way in which they went about their first full day of school was both positive and a joy to see.
Meredith Blakey (5/6), Rachel Wood (Senior School) and Kristyn Martin (Senior school) have returned after extended leave, and we welcome new additions Phoebe Lam (1/2) and Carolyn Shepherd (3/4) as Primary teachers. I also welcome Jeremy Carr as Academic Facilitator P-12.
With such warm and dry weather over the summer period, it's not surprising to see our stadium take shape in leaps and bounds. Each day when arriving at Collingwood College I am seeing more and more structure in place. It’s amazing how quickly the metal frame has been put in place! I’m told by the contractors that they are on schedule and are due to complete by mid-year as promised.
The College ‘Key dates’ calendar was completed late last week and published on our website under ‘College Knowledge’. Please take the time to have a look, as all important key dates and events have been set for the year. Please Note the Welcome Picnic is 1 March NOT 9 Feb.
With a new year comes new opportunity to help around the school. Please stay tuned for School Council information, particularly the opportunity to join one of our sub-committees. Desley returns from a short burst of leave next week. I know she is desperate for volunteers. Please make contact with her should you wish to offer us assistance in the garden or kitchen - Collingwood.co@edumail.vic.gov.au
The big ticket item for the next few weeks is the official launch of the Front Fence & Welcome Picnic. Please schedule in your diaries Friday, March 1st, 3:00pm onwards. Advertising released next week.
Sally Nansen along with other parents are planning working bees on Thursday afternoons leading up to the event. The plan is to clean up the front fence area of the school, weed, place mulch, whipper snip etc. Please come along from 2pm for a few hours and lend a hand. Again, more information from the front office.
That’s all from me now,
Sam Luck
Acting College Principal
