Year 12 News

Motivation Morning

On Tuesday the 23rd of April the Year 12 cohort participated in Motivation Morning. The aim of the morning was to get the students to set goals, think about their performance in term 1 and to set some goals for the future.

As part of the morning, Will Hipkin from Year 12 spoke to the cohort. We thought this was a great opportunity to get Will talking to his peers as he actually aspires to be an inspirational speaker in the future. As you can imagine, this is an incredibly big challenge for Will as not only was it his first time presenting but he had to present to 200 of his peers! Will gave a very inspirational speech to the cohort regarding the struggles he has faced in the past few years. During Year 10 Will suddenly lost his sight to a rare genetic condition. Will detailed to the cohort the struggles he has faced and showed the students what he is doing to overcome these struggles despite his condition. Will’s speech was very honest and confronting for the students and left them thinking, they need to appreciate ‘every little moment’. Congratulations Will on your preparation, performance and willingness to share, it really was a speech we will never forget.

Dan Bull, an inspirational speaker also spoke to the students. Dan was the first Australian to climb the highest mountain and the highest volcano on every continent (the 7 highest summits and the 7 volcanic summits). He sent a message to the students to be persistent with your dreams and set your goals high. Students were able to relate his speech to our senior school moto ‘Dare to Dream’ that inspires students to set goals for themselves that they want to achieve. Dan is also a local resident, which was very relatable for the students.

The students then celebrated the day with a hot drink van in the courtyard where they enjoyed relaxing and chatting to each other. The students enjoyed warming up with a hot drink and reflecting on a very inspirational morning.

Fancy Dress

On the 10th of May 2019 the Year 12 cohort celebrated the year so far by attending a fancy dress party.  The students all looked amazing and it was clear that a lot of effort had gone into their costumes. The staff dressed under the theme ‘Horror’ and really got involved in the night.  The students had a fabulous time dancing the night away in their costumes. It was a fantastic way to celebrate the successes so far in 2019.
