A great start to Term 2

The second half of term 1, was once again another busy but successful period for Team MSC. We held our athletics carnival on our athletics track with all students getting involved in the day in one way or another through competitive and novelty events. Our Swim team followed on from their 9th successive win in divisional swimming to swim strongly at SMR level, with many PB’s and strong results across the board. Our girls 16 year old 4x50m relay team advanced through to represent us at state level.

Within our team sports we had success across the board with wins in Baseball, Cricket, Tennis and Volleyball. Our Senior Boys Cricket and Year 7 Mixed Baseball team will play in state finals in October and November after successful Southern Metropolitan Regional Finals. Our Volleyball and Tennis teams have also competed or are due to compete in the SMR Finals in the coming weeks.

All of our sporting squads have record numbers attending including our brand new AFL squad which is held every Wednesday morning from 7.30-8.30. All students are welcome to attend no matter what experience they have.

Our senior boys represented the school for the very first time in the AFL Premier League Competition, the number one public school competition in the nation. In game one they comfortably defeated Hallam SC, which puts them second on the ladder going into the next game against Essendon Keilor College.

Aerobics have another three teams through to State finals and continue to lead the way as one of the very best aerobics schools in the state. The girls have been training hard for weeks under the guidance of their amazing coach, Miss Boulter.

Our athletics team made their way out to Ballam Park to compete in the Southern Peninsula Division Athletics during week 3 of term 2. Our teams won in the Junior boys, Intermediate Girls and Senior Boys pennants and narrowly being defeated by Dromana after holding the championship for the past 6 years.

Our Cross Country trials are currently taking place and teams will be selected over the next week – from here our teams will compete at SPD, SMR and State Cross Country.

On the golf course, we had a record number of students represent the college in the SSV Golf Championships, with Cooper Marriot, making it through to the state final to be held at Metropolitan Golf Club.

A number of students have represented the college in equestrian over the past few weeks and have had some fantastic results, including Skye and Ayla Hand who competed in the dressage, show-jumping and X-country events and finished first and seventh in their respective categories.

Also of interest is two of our former students made their AFL and AFL-W debuts in the past couple of months, with Lachlan Young (Class of 2017 and former AFL trainee) debuting for the Western Bulldogs and Shelley Heath (class of 2018) debuting for the Melbourne Football Club.
