Principal's Update

Principal's Report

As always life at Mornington Secondary College is extremely busy.  Students have had the opportunity to participate in many activities in and out of the classroom.

First day back this term, our Year 12 students participated in a 'motivational morning'.  The first guest speaker launched his career by speaking to the students about his life journey so far, inspiring and motivating his fellow peers to work hard to achieve their goals.  This guest speaker is our very own Vice Captain, Will Hipkin.  The morning ended with the 'coffee van'parked in the VCE courtyard serving our students before they went to class.

Many of our senior students participated in interschool sport.  Our Year 10 students met with local community members during their mock interviews and the Year 9 students explored different career paths during Pathways day.

Year 8 students camped at Rawson Village and our Year 7 students spent time with our Japanese visitors.

All staff have been reviewing and will refine the school values this term.  Work has begun and will continue by speaking to students and parents before a decision is made about the values.  I would like this work to be completed by the end of term, so I will ask you to respond to the compass insight in the next couple of weeks.  Only if you wish to do so.

On 24th April, the Department of Education launched a new website findmyschool.vic.gov.au.  This website shows every school zone across the state.  As of 2020, all public schools will be 'zoned'.  This means all students within zone are guaranteed enrolment.  Those outside of zone may apply to attend any school and will be considered, with space being a major criterion.  Current enrolments will remain, regardless of the residential address.

Rotary School Summit

Delegates from Mornington Secondary College recently attended an inspirational evening hosted by Mt Martha Rotary Club and attended by several local schools.  Mt Martha Rotary Club, who are already great supporters of Mornington Secondary College, held the evening to brainstorm how they can further support local schools.  We were very privileged to receive a donation of $500 in support of our Breakfast Club.

Striving for Personal Best

Our very own College captain Cooper Marriott was recently offered the opportunity to travel to China.  Following is an article from Cooper :

"Over the term one holidays I was invited to travel alongside my golf coach to compete in the Hainan Island Pro-am in China. Going to China by myself was a big step as I had done very little travelling overseas.  However, when you know you are going to the second largest golf complex in the world, Mission Hills Haikou, you know you’re in good hands! The culture was amazing and it gave me great insight into how lucky we really are here in Australia and that we should never take things for granted. The food was amazing, from Chinese Banquet dinners with the Chinese government to just a normal restaurant-- it was all amazing!

On top if this experience, I was even lucky enough to return home as the winner of the Hainan Island golf pro-am!! With many prizes won and the experience itself, I am already counting down the time that I’ll have an opportunity to return to China and defend the title next year!
