St Mary’s Parish Prayer

God our Father, as we thank you for the blessings, we ask you to bless this Parish of yours, so that

we may love you more.

Encircle our families with your loving care.

Help parents to be good examples to their

children and our youth to grow in strength as good Christians.

To the sick grant health, to the aged bring serenity and to those in sorrow, joy.

May we grow stronger in faith and may

our love for one another become deeper

in our daily living.

We make this through the intercession of our Mother Mary.  Amen

NEW - Wit of St John Henry Newman

When you feel in need of a compliment, give one to someone else.

Nothing would be done at all if one waited until one could do it so well that no one could find fault with it.

To live is to change, and to be perfect is to have changed often.

Updated - Prayer of The Week

May your grace, O Lord, we pray, at all times go before us and follow after and make us always determined to carry out good works. Roman Missal Collect 28th Sunday

Updated - Looking at the Readings

The fourth common preface for the Eucharist states: “For, although you [Father] have no need of our praise, yet our thanksgiving is itself your gift, since our praises add nothing to your greatness, but profit us for salvation,” It contains an interesting thesis. When applying to us, we find that God’s greatness is not dependent on our words or actions. But our existence, identity and well-being are dependent on God. We may notice a similar disposition between parent and child. A mother or father presenting a gift to their child does not do so to receive praise or thanks but to join in the wonder and delight of their child. God does not heal us for his own benefit and glory but delights in our well-being. On the other hand we grow in understanding and love when we acknowledge, praise and thank God for his generosity and care.

Naaman wanted to thank Elisha by showering gifts up on him. But Elisha wanted nothing but that Naaman to acknowledge his God. This pagan general in the Aramean army, eventually follows Elisha’s absurd instructions, is cleansed and converts to the faith in the one true God.

Jesus’ healing of the ten lepers is not merely a show of Jesus’ power but the importance of God’s people to give thanks. They are not only cleansed. The Samaritan leper is cleansed, is thankful and responds in faith and thus becomes a better person than he ever was before his disease and cure. Our Thanksgiving changes us!

NEW - Our Parish at St Mary's

  • Do you love coming along to mass each week?
  • Would you like to see our church continue to be a prayerful place for you and your family to come together each week?
  • Do you enjoy special events like anniversary masses, baptisms, weddings?
  • Have you noticed our every changing  altar displays?
  • Do you enjoy our overhead Caritas stories during Lent?
  • Are you happy to be part of our wonderful Christmas celebration in the Marian Centre?

If you answer YES to any of these questions, then we would love to hear from you.

Our Liturgy Team, headed up by Mavis Murphy and Liz Donnelly are appealing to you, our valued parishioners, to step up and    volunteer your services to assist in some of these areas.

We know you all have special skills and gifts in different areas and we would like you to share them with us.

  •  Some people have wonderful skills for Proclaiming the Word of the Lord and therefore reading at mass would be their   contribution.
  • Others have a special calling to be part of our mass by offering themselves as a Special Minister.
  • Some of you have the beautiful gift of music and could volunteer and help out our Music Ministry team.
  • You may be very good at handling money and would be a great asset joining our Bingo Team or perhaps assisting our Counters after mass occasionally.

Next weekend we will have speakers at both masses. They will expand on the various ministries and we will distribute a form for you all to fill out and return to Mons Peter or the Parish Office.

Thank you so much for caring for St. Mary’s.
