Interschool Athletics

It was the first week of Term and the Grade 3’s, 4’s, 5’s and 6’s were off to interschool athletics! The 6’s were first on Tuesday, the 5’s Wednesday, the 4’s Thursday and the 3’s on Friday! Everyone had an amazing time, some students were also catching up with some students from different schools. We had Kade James advance in Throw, Amani Issell advance for the Grade 6’s and for Grade 5’s we had Jacob Edmunds in Throw and Noah Williams advance in sprint and long jump. In grade 4 we had Jayde Whyoon and Rowan Ratcliffe. At St. Mary’s we must be quite good at throwing! The grade 6’s did quite a good job for their last year at this school as we say farewell to them all at the end of this term.

Board Games in the 5/6 area

In the 5\6 area we have been lucky enough to receive some new board games, all thanks to the money the P’n’F gave to our classroom teachers. We have enjoyed playing these games so much and just want to say thank you. Some of the new games include:

Numurkah Singers Production

On the 6th, 7th, 8th, 13th and 14th of November one of our students was in the production, South Pacific with the Numurkah singers. One of our staff members even saw the show. The Numurkah Singers have already revealed what productions they will do next year. The main show will be “Oliver!”, the Jr show will be “Anything goes” & the play will be “On Golden Pond”. However, they have decided not to do the junior school holiday production due to a lack of staffing. So if anyone reading is skilled at painting or knows how to use a tool get in touch with the Numurkah singers. Maybe you can help this hundred-year company to stay alive.

Art

In art with Mrs Wilson last term in 5/6 we were making African masks.

We did a painting with different colours like red, yellow, black, orange and brown. We put patterns, patience and time into these pieces of work. After that we did a clay mask. First we shaped the head, then we added the facial features and after we were done with the clay masks we added all different things like feathers, paper and beads.

In art with Mrs Wilson this term the grade 6 and grade 5 students are making a stuffed toy for their buddy as a farewell gift and and the grade 5’s are making one for an arrival present for the new buddies arriving next year. Some of the ideas the 5’s and 6’s have come up with are bunnies, chickens, tractors and lots more. We’re sure the prep’s will love their stuffed toys. We are still designing it, but the younger students will receive them in a few weeks.

Growth Mindset

What is a growth mindset?

This is a question st. Mary’s students have been asking Mrs Loughran since the start of last term writes Charlotte Seddon and Tate Gawne. In this exclusive article, you will find the true meaning of growth and fixed mindset and what it means to the students.

What is a growth mindset?

A growth mindset is when a student is willing to try new opportunities and look at things from the bright side. They take on feedback in a positive way and see mistakes as opportunities to learn. If you have a Growth Mindset you like a good hard challenge and are inspired by the success of others. They use the word yet and like to learn new things. Students with growth mindsets always think that they can improve and they get the work done to a high standard.

What is a fixed mindset?

A student with a fixed mindset always put themselves down to the point when they don't want to learn anymore and they think that if they fail they’re not good at anything. They always think that they can't improve and your smart or you're not. They think that feedback is personal and that everything is determined by how good they are at something.
