APPRECIATING OUR DAYS

Last week I was fortunate enough to take a short period of leave to visit Western Australia with a group of friends I have known for nearly 40 years. It was still a little challenging as some of our plans were changed due to the lockdown that occurred but saying that a wonderful time was had seeing a beautiful part of Australia and sharing many happy moments with wonderful friends.

Like many of you, I wake up each day wondering what world news awaits. Here in Carnegie, Melbourne, Victoria and Australia we do have so much to be grateful for and I do hope it continues this way. Other parts of the world aren’t in the same position as us and my heart goes out to those in other countries who are struggling to manage Covid 19. We need to count our blessings each day and find small ways whereby our actions assist those less fortunate. Life is often busy but let’s all find moments to reach out to others showing kindness, understanding and empathy. Please take care of yourself and your nearest and dearest.

A REAL TEAM EFFORT – Thanks so much

We have a school that we all should be very proud of. The most important part of our school is it people – the students, staff and supportive families but it was also a privilege to showcase our facilities.

I was proud to be part of our Prep Expo that was held last Saturday in the sunshine. This was an excellent opportunity to showcase what Carnegie Primary School has to offer prospective parents. A number of our Year 6 students did a great job taking tours and talking to future parents. In addition, our 4 school leaders, spoke passionately to our visitors about their memories of prep and how they feel about Carnegie PS. Thank you to those staff who also sacrificed part of their Saturday to showcase our classrooms and learning spaces.

Thanks also to those parents and students who supported the working bee we held on Saturday 1st May in preparation for our Expo. Those who attended topped up our sandpits, spread mulch, spruced up our veggie patch, planted trees and took the time to give an extra clean to our prep to 2 student chairs.

SCHOOLS OPERATIONAL GUIDELINES

As you know we have enjoyed many new freedoms over recent months with schools allowed to offer incursions and excursions with Covid safety protocols followed. Our senior students are loving the opportunity to participate in interschool sport and last week the sun shone for our Yr 3 to 6 cross country that was held at Lord Reserve.

Our school leaders have embraced the opportunity to lead Monday morning assemblies which are held outside. Parents are welcome to attend the outdoor Monday morning assemblies that commence just after 9am. We have also recommenced our Friday assemblies and all the students can come together but we still aren’t able to open this to parent/s and carers.

The department guidelines we are operating under state the ‘If an event is held with external guests (parents/carers/visitors) then the overall attendee limit (inclusive of guests, staff and students) must be based on available floor space of the venue; with the density limit of one person per two square metres applied. We will attempt to live steam the next  Friday assembly and do hope the technology works a little better. I thank you for your patience and understanding and hope restrictions continue to be lifted for schools and here at CPS.
