Jack wins State Chess
Northcote High School Senior Chess Team travelled to Brighton Grammar to participate in the Open Secondary State Final Chess Championships. While Northcote achieved seventh place in the Open Secondary division, Jack Puccini, the NHS Chess Captain, won the event winning 8 games, and drawing one, with old rival Ari Dale from Melbourne High, (formerly a Northcote HS student).
Finley Dale won 5 1/2 out of 9 games, and continues to show he is a very good chess player. Joseph Hatton and Daniel Zou and Liam Morgan also played with focus and strategical game plans to ensure the team success.

Unfortunately, they were overwhelmed by some excellent players from other schools. All players continue to show they are outstanding chess players. Below are the statistics for the tournament.

New Building Commences
New building work has already commenced at NHS. In one of the photos below, Captain Tom Hughes and friends Dorian Friday, Grace Klimek, Bill Zeng and Claire Cottrall discuss the idea of calling our new two story building The Mr Murphy Centre for Higher Learning. After all, said Dorian, it will be two stories. It will be completed in time for the 2016 school year.
Greetings from Yangzi HS!!
The Victorian Young leaders to China (VYLC) have settled into our home for the next 3 weeks at Yangzi High School, outside Nanjing. We arrived at 11.30 PM on Saturday night, and were straight into bed after a long day travelling. Then we had our welcoming ceremony on Sunday at 9.00 AM sharp. Every important person was there, Principals from both schools we are attending, officials from the International Education organisation and government officials, as well as our students language buddies and their parents. Our students were brilliant. The room was hot. They were really tired, and they all had their full suits and ties on. But not a word of complaint or distraction for the whole hour.
This morning was the weekly flag raising ceremony, with a special welcome for us. Then more classes, this time calligraphy and Tai Chi, followed by more language classes.
