Reporting on student progress 2016

Changes to reporting

In 2016 Northcote High School will be moving to Continuous Feedback online through MyNortchoteHigh in order to provide students and parents with more regular, timely, targeted and improvement-focussed feedback.

What is Continuous Feedback?

Starting 2016, parents and students of years 7-10 will receive feedback on student performance across 3 Common Assessment Tasks (CATs) throughout each Semester. This feedback will be provided through the MyNorthcoteHigh portal and will be in the form of skills based rubric which will show the skills and knowledge that the student has shown and accompanied by a comment that informs the student on what they need to do to improve. Students who are completing VCE will receive feedback on each SAC that they complete; this may vary in number from subject to subject.

Why Continuous Feedback?

Continuous Feedback is founded on a wealth of research in assessment/reporting and student learning. It draws on the work of Professor John Hattie from the University of Melbourne and his analysis of 180 000 studies representing over 50 million students, which found that ‘informative feedback’ had the greatest effect on student learning.

What will happen to End of Semester reports?

End of Semester reports will still exist and the information on those will be streamlined to show student progression through AusVELS (Years 7-10) and Assessment task results (VCE) as well as reporting on “Behaviour” and “Effort” for all students. There will be no written comments or information related to quality of Assessment Tasks on these reports.

This feedback and reporting initiative will provide you with more current information on the progress of your son/daughter and also complements the other aspects of the school’s assessment and reporting program.
