Year One News

Hi Year One families,

In Inquiry, the students have learned about the Northern and Southern hemispheres. They know about the equator. They have been learning about different environments around the world including the savanna, Arctic and Antarctica, ocean, desert, and the rainforest. Students have been specifically looking at the landscape, climate, and animals that live there. The students have enjoyed decorating their classroom to represent one of these environments. Then they have been visiting each classroom throughout the term. Students are also creating their own Arctic, ocean, and desert as well as going on digital safaris and conducting science experiments about the weather.

Here are some prompting questions to ask your child to find out more about these exciting lessons and activities:

  • What environment is displayed in your classroom?
  • What can you tell me about this environment?
  • What do the other classrooms look like?
  • Have you been on an imaginary safari with QR codes and what animals did you see?
  • Have you made your ocean? Describe it to me, is it a coral reef, kelp forest, or a midnight zone? Which animals did you include?
