In Year 9 #welovefood, students are deepening their understanding of how our food choices are influenced by focusing on the relationship between food and the media.
After studying different techniques for writing about food (instructional – recipes, informative – research of a food related topic and descriptive – food reviews), students were required to write a review about an affordable lunch venue. Here’s some of the results from our budding food reviewers.
As soon as I entered the Emporium I felt instantly welcome in the big open space. It had a warm and welcoming feeling with lightly dimmed lights, chatter and soft background music helping to set the mood. After walking around exploring the array of options I came across Rice Workshop situated on the top floor of Melbourne’s Emporium. The comforting aroma of rice, ramen and chicken broth drew me in. Rice Workshop’s menu is diverse and inclusive, catering for traditional and asian fusion tastes, meat lovers and vegetarians.

At first when I began eating my meal, I was expecting the average taste of fried rice, that of which I was used to, but that is not what I got, I found it was amazing, I was able to taste each ingredient individually, the rice was warm, and savoury, while the chicken and prawn were rich and tender, finally the egg topped it all off with an odd, but welcoming, salty and light taste to it.
I was very happy with my meal from this venue as it had a great rich taste and fresh, savoury aroma, I was still surprised that I felt full from a dish that only to a total of $13.50.

The texture of the rice is soft and squishy, slightly chewy, and not at all watery which is good, although the egg was slightly wet and off putting so something to improve would be cook the egg more. The egg was also quite spongy and cut into thin slices so easy to digest. The prawn and spring onion game the dish a pop of colour which was pleasing to the eye although the spring onion didn’t offer much taste-wise.

We also wanted to celebrate the great work of the Art Club who responded to our request for something food related to hang in C7. Unfortunately we will have to wait a little longer and we will share the final result with you but here is the work in progress. We would like to express our thanks and gratitude to the Art Club who under the steady hand of Mr. Drinan turn up every session to complete their work
