Room 2

Room 2 Sustainability

This term students in Room 2 had the opportunity  with Room 3 to visit the KESAB Education Centre to see first hand what happens to the materials that are thrown away and how these are processed to achieve the best outcomes.

First, we had a tour of the Electronic Waste Recycling Depot. Students were able to see what happens to computers, mobile phones and televisions when they are no longer used. They learned that many of these things get taken apart, and often the parts can be reused or melted down and then used for something else.

Next, we had a tour of Integrated Waste Services, where we were able to access the viewing platform and see the excavators digging through huge piles of rubbish that had been sent to land fill. Students were able to see many items that they thought could have been recycled or donated instead of ending up in land fill.

After that we stopped for a snack, before heading into the Education Centre within the building, where we were able to explore a variety of mini games about recycling and waste management.

The students had a great time learning about the importance of disposing of waste responsibly.

We wish to thank our volunteers from Room 2 and 3 -   Mandeep Saini, Siamak Fallah, Dhruvaben Bhatt, Rachel Robinson and our wonderful Room 5 and 7 students - Wardah, Joshua, Alex and Chloe for joining us and supporting our classes.
