The Debaters Association of Victoria Junior British Parliamentary Debating Grand Final was held recently and one of our Year 7 teams comprising of Olivia Woodhouse, Jade Holcombe and Prisha Rewal were one of four teams to qualify for the Grand Final after the state tournament was held earlier this term.

They were up against teams of Year 8 debaters from Haileybury College City, Haileybury College Keysborough and Mentone Girls Grammar in a secret topic debate, with the topic released just an hour before the debate took place (‘This house would ban filters on social media’).

In an absolutely AMAZING result, they were unanimously named the WINNERS of the Grand Final, and the Victorian Junior British Parliamentary State Champions!

Our students were phenomenal. British Parliamentary is the most complex form of debating, and nothing can be pre-prepared. They were up against three teams of older and more experienced debaters, they had themselves only done a handful of debates, and they were so pleased to have made it this far. To go on to win this competition at Year 7 is nothing short of astonishing. They have also brought home the hat-trick: this is the third year running that Huntingtower has won the Junior BP Competition.

Please make sure you congratulate these students if you see them: they debated outstandingly well and did our school proud!
